Just posted another batch of 33 photos to
my Flickr page. Sorry there aren't any captions, but I think most tell a story without words, except perhaps these odd tables in the woods or those strange aprons on the rocks... I'm not sure what that's all about! Lots of temples and shrines in Kyoto and more friendly deer!

ReplyDeleteThe aprons on the stone figures are called Jizo. They are like bodhisattvas who guide the way of the deceased when they are caught in other realms of existence (like hell), and also for children, unborn, aborted, or still-born. The Jizo or spirit guide also looks after travelers, pilgrims, fireman, and pregnant mothers. They are very good luck and very helpful to those mentioned above.
