La Bella Cubana at Kaufman Center

A little bird requested La Bella Cubana, by José White Lefitte, so here's the recording of the Crowden 7th & 8th grade violinists performing it at the Kaufman Center near Juilliard in New York City on June 22, 2007. (play it now or check your Crowden Life podcast in iTunes) This performance took place in a recording studio, so the sound is a bit dull, especially for this beautiful piece which would probably like a little more room to breathe and soar. I've heard the kids rehearsing it, so hopefully we'll get another performance or two in the next few days.

  1. All of the recordings are terrific! My ears don't find any 'dull'. However, even my (slightly tone deaf) ears did notice the differences you mentioned with regard to the Bloch pieces -- as you heard and recorded them live in the various locations.

Listening on head phones seems to differentiate the music coming from the instruments, in particular, the violins on the Double Bach stood out much more with the headphones versus no headphones. (In both, cases the music was wonderful.)

Thanks, so much, these recordings bring us (those like me, a parent with a child on the tour) so much closer to being a part of it. Bravi to the musicians and bravo to 'bebopper' for bringing the music to us.

  2. Thank you for posting, recording and photographing the tour! I appreciate it so much. The chance to hear and see what's happening is great fun.

I, too, love hearing the music. The differences in the performances are notable. It's educational to listen to them back to back. I imagine the kids were pretty tired those first few days.

Thanks again. We look forward to the next posting!
